We’re thrilled to announce that one of our Lloyds Scholars, Alex Gipp, has been presented with an award by Lloyds Banking Group for her outstanding efforts during her scholarship. Throughout her time at the University of Bath, Alex engaged wholeheartedly in volunteering and acted as a beacon to others and displayed the actions of a true Champion of the Lloyds Scholarship programme.

Alex dedicated much of her time to volunteering throughout her degree, starting with AgeUK in 2019. After the charity’s protocols prevented her from continuing to volunteer after the outbreak of Covid in the spring of 2020, Alex began working with IntoUniversity, which involved mentoring a secondary school student in Bristol from a disadvantaged background. Her exemplary efforts didn’t stop there, however, and throughout her degree she additionally volunteered with FoodCycle, a charity that provides a free hot meal from food that would otherwise have gone to waste. This was a much-needed service throughout Covid and beyond, and her contributions have been greatly valued by all those who have benefitted from her time and skills.

Alex Gipp is a Runner Up for the Lloyds Champion Award, which recognises excellence in Scholars. She was a fantastic entrant, having achieved a huge amount during her time at the University of Bath. We couldn’t be prouder of Alex! Upon hearing she had won, Alex said “Thank you so much, I am over the moon and honoured that I was nominated for this award”.

The winners of the Lloyds Champion Award were selected by a panel of Lloyds Banking Group colleagues. The Lloyds Scholarship programme is now formally closed to new students after a successful 10-year run. The scholarship programme has supported 102 students at the University of Bath since 2013, which was one of only 9 Universities in the UK to have Lloyds Scholars.

Congratulations to Alex from The SU and all the best for your next steps after graduation!
