V Code secondary school STEM day

Katherine Everton

Supporting the next generation of women in STEM

On Saturday 28 February, the SU's student-led group V Code (part of V Team) held an inspiring STEM day on the University of Bath campus for secondary school girls in Bath. In partnership with local charity Mighty Girls the event hosted more than 60 incredible students who spent the day learning the basics of computer coding, and hearing from female speakers working across STEM industries across the UK. On top of all the learning, the girls also had the opportunity to meet new friends and explore the many future career pathways open to girls in technology.

Marsha Mars, the Director of Mighty Girls, described the day as “a great success”, while one parent shared their appreciation saying, “Thanks so much to everyone who gave up their time for this event – my daughter and her friends had an amazing day”.

The event highlights that student-led initiatives are a very powerful and successful tool in inspiring young people to explore technology in a supportive and engaging environment.
