Mariel - 3rd year Psychology

"I started Poker because I wanted to join some societies at Uni, and I used to really like playing with my family.  Me and my friend Kirstie went to our first week and it was really fun, it had a nice chilled atmosphere so I wanted to keep going. It’s such a relaxing environment - I’d definitely say give it a try!”

Ahmed - 3rd year Mechanical Engineering placement

“Going to Poker Soc is always one of the highlights of my week. It’s a short-lived but sweet period of time where you can play some cards with your mates and forget about that coursework that’s been occupying your mind every day. I’ve improved my game since joining and I’ve made so many friends I wouldn't have met outside society.”

Lilli - 2nd year Biomedical Science

“Poker Soc is a great environment to meet new people, even if you don’t know how to play. I was a little intimidated at first as it was my first year, but once I got talking to people I felt very comfortable. Poker is easy to pick up, and everyone is friendly, easy to talk to and get to know. I’m not afraid to ask questions to improve, and also have fun.”

Rowan - Biology (graduated)

“I started playing poker because it looked like a cool strategy game and a nice activity to do with your friends. When I came to Poker Soc I found a relaxing, friendly atmosphere, so I kept coming! Don’t be scared to come along and learn how to play, most people at the society have only been playing since they joined and the great thing about poker is that anyone can win.”
