About us

The Russian-speaking Society (RSS) strives to build a welcoming and inclusive community for all those who speak Russian, have a post-Soviet background, or are simply mesmerised by Slavic culture.

We are proud to represent members from across Eastern Europe and Central Asia, from countries such as Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Georgia, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Moldova, Latvia, and others.

Our events include unforgettable nights out in Bath, as well as celebrations of traditional festivities. We love to play our favourite game of Mafia, enjoy traditional Slavic foods, and of course, sing and dance. These atmospheric evenings are sure to bring nostalgia and make you feel at home!

Joining our society is also an excellent opportunity for those keen to practise their Russian language skills — whether you're learning it ab initio at university or looking to become more fluent when speaking with Russian-speaking family members.

It is important to note that the society does not support the war in Ukraine and focuses on cultural rather than political themes. Our aim is to unite Russian speakers and share the university experience with people of a similar post-Soviet or Slavic background.
