The Bath University Academic Reading Society (BARS) aims to create a collaborative and engaging environment where students can come together through interdisciplinary reading and discussion beyond the scope of their lectures. Through regular journal club sessions, informal talks with university staff and external speakers, alongside regular socials, the society encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and building confidence when engaging with academic literature.
We will hold a variety of socials throughout each month:
- Journal Club - Biweekly journal club sessions where society members will come together to discuss a paper that has been previously voted on by members the week before. This is a chance to better understand reading academic literature and engage in current topics across multiple scientific fields!
- Science on Tap - Monthly guest talks, in a pub! Get a first-hand experience of academic research and publishing from the Universities very own lectures in the comfort of one of Baths pubs.
- Social Events - On weeks without the journal club society members will get the chance to gather together for informal social events.
