A New University Run Guarantor Scheme for Students Who Need It Most
Hi everyone its your favourite Officer Trio Sanya, Benji and Izzy here to give you even more amazing news!
We’re really pleased to share an update that will make a big difference for many Students navigating the housing market and put money back into Students pockets when they need it the most. Thanks to our Lobbying inside and outside University meetings, The University will be introducing a new University-run Guarantor Scheme for students who often face barriers when trying to secure private accommodation. This scheme will support International students, student carers, Widening Participation Students, and estranged students; groups who often struggle securing a UK-based guarantors. Without one, students can end up paying huge upfront costs or paying 600£ on average to use a third party guarantor scheme.
Under this new University scheme, eligible students will be able to use the University as their guarantor for Bath based lettings. This scheme will only cost an administration fee of 75£ which will on average, put 525£ back into Students' pockets!
It’s a practical step that removes a financial barrier and makes renting in Bath that bit more accessible. We know how stressful the housing process can be, so anything that reduces cost and uncertainty is a win.
The SU and The University will share more details soon about how students can apply and who’s eligible. For now, we just wanted to let you know this is coming and that it’s a direct result of feedback we’ve heard from students over the past year (It was a Top 10 issue back in 2015!).
If you’ve got questions or experiences you want to share, come chat to us.
