Benefits

Working at The SU comes with a variety of benefits along with access to excellent facilities either on campus or within Bath’s historic city centre.

Mandy

Deputy Chief Executive

I love the energy of The SU; our staff, officers and over thousand student reps all work really hard to develop and improve the experience of studying and working here. Their creativity, commitment and motivation is infectious. Every day is different and our work really does create change, which is such a rewarding thing to be a part of.

Pay

The SU has a defined pay and grading structure benchmarked with the Higher Education sector, which means that your pay will progress within the grade for the role on an annual basis.

Pay awards to recognise cost of living increases are negotiated nationally through the Universities & Colleges Employers’ Association (UCEA) with recognised trade unions.

Pension

We operate two strong pension schemes – Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) and the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). These schemes include an ill-health provision, lump sum payment and an annual pension.

Work-Life Balance

We offer generous holiday entitlements starting at 23 days plus 8 statutory bank holidays and 5 further discretionary days.

For staff with family/caring responsibilities, we offer a whole package of family friendly policies which provide for flexible working, additional paid maternity and paternity leave, parental leave and leave for family emergencies.

Staff enjoy subsidised access to the University’s £30 million sports complex and a wide range of different cafés, bars, shops and restaurants to suit all tastes. There are plenty of social activities on offer and the campus is surrounded by National Trust land, so even a lunchtime stroll can be special!

Contribution Pay

We operate a Contribution Pay scheme for recognising and rewarding staff for exceptional performance. The arrangements aim to recognise and encourage sustained excellence, commitment and professionalism.

Childcare

We have access to the University’s campus based nursery, which operates a salary exchange scheme which can result in significant savings on childcare costs.

Learning Opportunities

The SU is an ideal place for you to develop within your chosen career and you can access a wide variety of workshops and events, from one-off sessions to accredited programmes.

And finally

For a small fee you can access TOTUM, the new name for the NUS extra card, which offers a huge variety of discounts at various retail outlets and much more!
