This special edition of Feel Good Friday blends the spirit of Volunteering Week with the celebration of Lunar New Year. Expect a calm, creative space with activities themed around kindness, good fortune, and community. Drop in anytime between 10:00 and 15:00 - no booking required. Stay for as long or as little as you like.

This event is free to attend and open to all students.

Activities include:

  • Chinese Paper Lantern Station (hosted by ChinaRen)
    • Create your own festive Chinese paper lantern to welcome Lunar New Year.
    • Volunteers from ChinaRen will show you how to fold, cut, and assemble traditional lantern designs symbolising brightness, luck, and renewal. 
  • Paper Fan Decorating Station (hosted by ABACUS)
    • Design and decorate your own paper fans. ​
  • Wall of Kindness
    • Share positivity and help the wall grow throughout the day.
    • Take 1 uplifting message from the board, leave 2 of your own.
    • Write your notes on red and gold post‑its, inspired by Lunar New Year colours symbolising good fortune and prosperity.
    • Add a message of kindness, gratitude, good luck, or volunteering inspiration, and watch the display fill into a bright, celebratory wall as the day goes on.
  • Colouring
    • Choose from designs featuring traditional Lunar New Year symbols, good‑luck motifs, and volunteering‑themed illustrations that celebrate kindness and community.
  • Origami
  • Board games

Who can come?

Everyone is welcome - whether you're coming alone, with friends, or hoping to meet new people. The space is relaxed and friendly, with people coming and going throughout the day. Expect a calm atmosphere with small groups or individuals.

Accessibility Information

  • This is a relaxed, drop-in style event.
  • You are not expected to speak, interact, or participate unless you choose to.
  • You can engage in activities at your own pace. 
  • The space will be gently busy throughout the day, with small groups and individuals.
  • There is no pressure to socialise.

Sensory and Accessibility Details

  • Noise: Low-level ambient noise from conversation, gentle activity and background music.
  • Lighting: Natural and indoor lighting. No flashing or strobe lights.
  • Food and Drink: No food provided, but you are welcome to bring your own.
  • Access: The venue is wheelchair accessible, with step-free entry and accessible toilets nearby.
  • Use the lift on level 0 to go to level 2, the Art Studio doors will be open.
  • Seating: A mix of chairs and tables available. There are different stations available so you can move around or base yourself at once activity.
