Who are we?
We are a friendly and inclusive group of people with a shared interest in feminism! As a Diversity & Support group within the Students' Union, we are here to support you through any sex discrimination issues you may experience whilst at University by creating a safe place.
If you'd like to have a chat about anything, please feel free to drop us a message on Facebook/Instagram/Twitter, send us an email at feminism-gender-equality@bath.ac.uk, or come along to one of our meetings or events!
What do we do?
As a group, we aim to raise awareness and promote feminism and gender equality both on campus, in the city of Bath and in the wider world. A vital part of feminist action is the willingness to challenge and evaluate ourselves as activists, for we live in a society where our race, culture and sexuality vary far beyond the colours of the rainbow. We are passionate about women's liberation and by association the deconstruction of gender norms, roles and stereotypes. We believe that liberation can also only be achieved through an intersectional approach to feminism. We hope through our society to be able to facilitate inclusive discussions and sharing of experiences between our members. Through weekly discussion groups, events, activism, socials and talks, we hope to be the most active and open Feminism and Gender Equality group yet!
In the past, with other university groups, we have had events such as 'What is Feminism?' and 'Black Feminism: A Panel Discussion', as well as 'Reclaim the Night' in 2017. This year, we plan to do even more. Some of those include: discussing topics such as the desexualisation of LGBTQ+ women, raising awareness of Black History Month in relation to women of colour's vital contribution to building the feminist movement, whether pornography can ever be feminist, and a charity event supporting domestic violence shelters in Bath.
We encourage all members to have active participation in our society, so please don't hesitate to get in contact if you have any ideas or feedback.
How to get involved?
This year we will be holding weekly meetings, every Wednesday from 6:30-8pm in CB 4.10 or on Microsoft Teams, covering a range of different issues within feminism, as well as monthly screenings of feminist films followed by discussions, and collaborations with other societies. To keep up to date with our events, give our Facebook page a like and see what events are happening!

How can I join?
Members of this group can be as involved as they like. Our goal is to create a safe environment where people feel comfortable sharing their thoughts - nobody will pressure you to do or say anything you don't want to. Some members may attend every meeting, some may only participate sometimes, some may help promote or run a campaign of importance to them - it's up to you!
Membership is free, so join now, by 'adding' your membership to your SU basket on the left-hand side of our page! We also have a Facebook group, Instagram and Twitter account that we encourage everyone to follow, and a Whatsapp group chat!
We look forward to meeting you all!
Love,
Feminism and Gender Equality Committee 2020/21 xoxo
