We are a friendly and inclusive group of people with a shared interest in feminism! As a D&S group within the Students' Union, we are here to support you through any gender inequality issues you may experience whilst at University.
If you'd like to have a chat about anything, please feel free to drop us a message on Facebook, send us an email, or come along to one of our meetings or events!
What do we do?
As a group, we aim to raise awareness and promote feminism and gender equality both on campus, in the city of Bath and in the wider world. We are passionate about women's liberation and by association the deconstruction of gender norms and roles, and we are only interested in a feminism that is intersectional in all areas, trans-inclusionary and that is committed to deconstructing patriarchal norms through discussion and sharing of experiences. Through weekly disscusion groups, events, activism, socials and talks, we hope to be the most active and open Feminism and Gender Equality group yet!
In the past, with other university groups, we have had events such as 'What is Feminism?' and 'Black Feminism: A Panel Discussion', as well as 'Reclaim the Night' in 2017. This year, we plan to do even more, discussing topics such as the desexualisation of LGBT+ women, raising awareness of Black History Month in relation to into Women of Colour's vital contribution to the feminist movement, whether pornography can ever be feminist , and a charity event supporting domestic violence shelters in Bath.
We encourage all members to have active participation in our society, so please don't hesitate to get in contact if you have any ideas or feedback.
How to get involved?
This year we will be holding weekly workshops, every Monday from 7.15-9pm on campus, covering a range of different issues within Feminism and Gender Equality, as well as monthly screenings of feminist films followed by discussions. To keep up to date with our events, give our Facebook page a like and see what events are happening!
How can I join?
Members of this group can be as involved as they like. Our goal is to create a safe environment where people feel comfortable sharing their thoughts - nobody will pressure you to do or say anything you don't want to. Some members may attend every meeting, some may only participate online, some may help promote or run a campaign of importance to them - it's up to you!
Membership is free, so join now, by 'adding' membership to your SU basket on the left hand side of our page! We also have a Facebook group, Instagram and Twitter account that we encourage everyone to follow!
We look forward to meeting you all!
