Sustainability Champions play an important part in helping to embed sustainability into everyday life at Bath. The role focuses on engaging fellow students, encouraging sustainable actions, promoting student opportunities, and representing Sustainable Bath.

You will work as part of a team of Champions, alongside the Sustainability team and Campus Services, to provide peer-to-peer support and help make sustainability visible, accessible, and relatable to all students.

Person specification

The ideal candidate for this role will be:

  • passionate about sustainability and creating positive change
  • confident and enthusiastic when talking to students
  • able to creatively communicate about sustainability through social media and other channels
  • confident to identify areas for improvement and propose new solutions

Main Duties and Responsibilities

As a Sustainability Champion, you will:

  • engage students in key sustainability campaigns throughout the year (e.g. Leave No Trace, Winter switch off, Active travel)
  • visit halls of residence at key times of the year to talk with students, share helpful information, and promote initiatives
  • help design, coordinate, and deliver monthly events and activities across campus, including during Freshers’ Week
  • create engaging content for Sustainable Bath’s social media channels and blog
  • work independently when engaging with students, while also contributing to wider team efforts
  • support bespoke sustainability projects with the Sustainability team and Campus Services
  • use short questionnaires or discussion guides to start conversations and record student feedback
  • collaborate with fellow Sustainability Champions to develop creative and innovative ways to empower students to take action for sustainability
