The Students’ Union Bars & Events team are looking for committed individuals to join our award-winning bar. This position would be ideal for anyone looking for some work on campus. One of the key values at the SU is to promote a sense of fun and enjoyment, which we hope to achieve every day. We are looking for a hard-working individual who is ready to be an ambassador for the SU Bars in all aspects of their work. As bar staff you will be expected to serve drinks, take food orders and maintain a tidy environment both behind the bar and in the front of house.

Although bar experience is desired, it is not essential. The ability to demonstrate excellent customer service is extremely valuable to us at the SU Bars.  Applications are ongoing and due to the large number, we receive, unsuccessful applicants may not receive a responded to.

Staff must be able to work early morning, evening and weekends.

Any successful applicant must be able to attend in person training day week commencing 14 September 2026 with a view for new staff to be able to start from 19 September. (Dates for training to be confirmed)

As SU bar staff your main duties will include:

  • Deliver excellent customer service in a fast-paced student bar environment
  • Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages efficiently and responsibly
  • Operate tills and handle cash/card transactions accurately
  • Check identification and ensure compliance with Challenge 25 and licensing laws
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards across the bar, cellar, and customer areas
  • Restock fridges, shelves, and bar supplies throughout shifts
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures, including cashing up and security checks
  • Support the setup and delivery of student events, themed nights, and live entertainment
  • Monitor customer behaviour and help maintain a safe and welcoming atmosphere
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors, security staff, and fellow team members
  • Follow health & safety procedures and food hygiene regulations
  • Handle customer queries, complaints, and incidents professionally
  • Promote drinks offers, events, and SU campaigns to customers
  • Assist with stock rotation and waste reduction procedures
  • Ensure tables, glassware, and service areas remain clean and presentable during service
  • Adapt to busy periods and work effectively under pressure
  • Attend staff training sessions and team briefings as required
