Rate of pay: Casual Demonstrator (CW6) pay grade, £16.46/hour + holiday pay (£18.45 total)

Hours required: Estimated two or three hours per week, on average, during teaching weeks only. Session times are currently not known.

Job description:

MASH is the University’s mathematics and statistics help provision as part of the Mathematics Resources Centre. We provide daily drop-in support for all students, and dedicated sessions for Year 1 students studying Mathematics modules, led by a team of peer tutors.

Peer tutors will work in small teams to deliver drop-in support during teaching weeks. We surveyed our peer tutors in 2024 and 100% of respondents said they enjoyed working for MASH.

Essential skills and qualities:

· You must be a student within the mathematics department, including dual honours (a computer science student applying only to work in the Python drop-in is also acceptable)

· You must be a year 2/3/4 undergraduate or a postgraduate with a mathematics undergraduate background.

· Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

· Good verbal communication skills.

· Ability to explain complex mathematical concepts.

· Empathetic.

· Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
