About ASE
Based in central Bath, Advanced Studies in England (ASE) is a study abroad programme for undergraduates from top US colleges and universities, owned by Franklin and Marshall College. In a typical 16-week semester (Autumn/Spring), between 40 and 60 students explore life in Bath with ASE while undertaking a range of courses in the humanities, including English, History, Art and Architecture, Education, Classical Studies, and Political and Social Sciences, as well as various internships and school placements. Students also have the option of enrolling in our Education, (Musical) Theatre, and Main Summer Schools, for 5 weeks between June and July. All live in historical town houses in and around the centre of Bath, and attend classes at our study centre, Nelson House, on Pierrepont Street.
ASE places cultural immersion at the heart of the student experience. Alongside their academics, students are encouraged to engage with the local community through a wide range of social, cultural, and volunteer opportunities, as part of a social and cultural programme. This includes participation in ASE-organised excursions and events, connections with local organisations, Associate Membership of Bath Spa University Students’ Union, and support in exploring the city's cultural life. Through these experiences, ASE aims to help students develop meaningful connections with both local residents and fellow students while gaining a deeper understanding of British culture and society.
