ISB 2023

Update:
Slight issue with payment for accommodation as owner asked for payment on arrival and has no business account. Possible to pay directly into personal account, but will need clarifying with SU

GD and RR to speak to SU re: accommodation payment

Font 2023

Update:
2 MPVs = 18 people on trip but would still require both gites as not enough beds/sofas in singular gite. However, this would be a significant cost increase for individuals. Alternatively take 2 MPVS one not full (e.g. 15 people total)

Hard to decide without actually knowing numbers/interest from wider club membership

TH to put post on FB group gauging interest in Font

Drivers & Transport

Update:
SU finally have new transport officer, Chris. To be new point of contact for any/all transport queries.

Confusion as to cost of MPVs as people hearing/giving conflicting numbers.

Invoice for 6 drivers put through MiDAS training has come through

RR to clarify with Chris MPV hiring costs.

BritRock or Similar Event

Update:
Went well overall. Need to reopen product as someone paid on the door.

Raised £295, short on last year and falls below minimum threshold of £300. Therefore club needs to pay extra £5 to cover this.

Regardless of lack of profit, worthwhile event to host regularly, on the condition £300 minimum doesn’t change

AE to reopen product

Learn To Belay/Wed Climbing/BUCS Trials

Update:

Overall going well with good turnout.

NS to organise learn to lead at The Arc

Birmingham Climbing comp opened up to wider club not just BUCS team due to need for drivers

Exeter comp – four drivers signed up so maybe take 20 people in total

Suggested be good to readvertise the need for drivers within the club

Frome Boulder Rooms – waiting on email from them but they are keen for the club to go and use. If club have regular visits then scope for reduced entry fee.

Issue is access to the place without a car is hard. Trains are infrequent and centre is other side of Frome from train station and requires bus or long walk. C.f. TCA/Flashpoint is 10 min train and 10/15 min walk

NS to continue with learn to lead organisation

TH to organise BUMC attendance of Birmingham comp

AG to readvertise need to drivers

TH/NS/CS to continue contact with Frome.

Lounge

Feedback from membership is people don’t want to use FB (i.e. use it or even join in the first place) and don’t read the emails, so rely on Instagram posts

Complaints as well about lack of a group chat, something other clubs do. However, tried in the past and only got complaints about excluding people hence reluctance to revisit this.

CS proposing Lounge as an alternative. Basically, functions exactly like FB. Proposed to use Lounge for club business and the FB group is there for any unofficial business.

Concerns about the switch over, i.e. which platform to use etc, alleviated by doing a hard switch to Lounge on an agreed date.

Point raised that if people are reluctant to join/use App A then why would they use/engage with App B. Unsure if this will actually improve anything.

Committee to have relevant sub-lounges and posts/events ready on lounge for 25th Nov

To be trialled until ISB
