Since launching in 2016, the student-led group has recruited 2,379 potential stem cell donors to the register and raised £28,869 to support Anthony Nolan's work. Even more remarkably, at least six people who joined the register through Bath Marrow have gone on to donate their stem cells, offering patients with blood cancer and blood disorders a potentially life-saving second chance.

Why this matters
Recruiting potential stem cell donors is at the heart of Bath Marrow's mission.
The society regularly runs donor recruitment events across campus, giving eligible students the opportunity to join the stem cell register through a simple cheek swab. Volunteers also attend fairs, society events and awareness campaigns throughout the year, helping students learn more about stem cell donation and the difference it can make to patients waiting for a transplant.
Every donor registration starts with a conversation, and over the past 10 years those conversations have led to life-changing outcomes.
Their biggest year yet
During the 2025-26 academic year alone, Bath Marrow recruited more than 360 potential stem cell donors and raised £1,247, making it one of the society's most successful years to date.
Its efforts have also been recognised nationally. At the National Marrow Conference 2026 in Leeds, Bath Marrow won the Star Group Communications Award and was nominated for the Star Donor Recruiter Group Award.
Lili, Outreach Officer for Bath Marrow, said:
"Knowing that at least six people recruited by Bath Marrow have gone on to donate and potentially save lives shows just how powerful these conversations can be. Every cheek swab has the potential to change someone's future."

Powered by students
Behind every donor registration, awareness campaign and fundraising total are student volunteers.
Over the years, Bath Marrow members have organised everything from fashion shows and movie nights to raffles, charity challenges, awareness campaigns and collaborations with other student groups. The group’s success is a powerful example of how student groups can create meaningful change, both within the university community and far beyond it.
