Drug Harm Reduction on campus Approved

Helen Webb

Free drug testing kits and harm reduction advice will be available on campus from February!

We are so pleased to share that provision for a harm reduction approach to student drug use has been APPROVED!

From February 10, every Thursday from 11:00 - 13:00, students will be able to collect free drug testing kits and harm reduction advice from upstairs in The Student Centre (SU Building) through the charity DHI! As well as this, the university have published a statement outlining their shift to a harm reduction approach to recreational drug use.

This has been a huge piece of work. Since starting in July our Community Officer Meg has had 26 Teams meetings to push for and coordinate this project. The work began with Franci, last year's SU President, so it's important we thank him for the amazing work he put into this and the fantastic handover that was given. This is an example of why Students' Unions are so powerful and so important. A huge amount of lobbying, over multiple years, went into making sure the student voice was heard on this. Thank you to all students and staff who have been involved in this conversation throughout the years.

We're so proud that we were able to achieve an entire university shift in approach to drug use and provision to support this approach.
