A day of football, community and fundraising.
On Sunday 24 May 2026, we hosted this year’s SU Bath World Cup, bringing together 16 teams from our Faith and Cultural Groups for an exciting day of football at the Sports Training Village.
The tournament saw teams compete in a series of fast-paced 7-a-side matches. The energy from both players and supporters created a fantastic atmosphere, as hundreds of students came along to cheer on their societies and celebrate the diversity of our student community.
A standout feature of this year’s event was the incredible organisation behind the scenes. A huge thank you must go to Gleb Sochynskyi from the Ukrainian Society, whose hard work, coordination and leadership made the entire day possible. The event truly wouldn’t have happened without their dedication and commitment - thank you, Gleb!
Thanks to the generosity of attendees, donations were collected throughout the day in aid of Friends of Oleksandriya, a volunteer-led charity supporting communities in Oleksandriya, Ukraine.
The competition itself was closely contested, with teams showing great skill, teamwork, and determination throughout the tournament. After an exciting day of fixtures, congratulations go to Scandinavian Society for taking home the trophy and being crowned this year’s champions.
SU Activities Officer Sam Ellis Hunt said: “This year’s World Cup was such an amazing event! It was incredible to see so many students come together, not just to compete, but to celebrate our international community. The atmosphere throughout the day was brilliant and the level of commitment from all teams was fantastic. A huge thank you again to Gleb for making the event happen, and congratulations to the winning team!”
Well done to everyone who took part, supported and helped deliver such a memorable event. We’re already looking forward to bringing it back next year.
