Varsity Champions 2022

Bath brings home the varsity trophy for another year! An amazing day of sporting talent.

SU Sport and the University were extremely happy to welcome the return of Varsity to the Sports Training Village. Bath has taken on Cardiff Metropolitan University (Cardiff Met) for five years, winning each time. After a two year break due to Covid, Bath students and staff were keen to make it an event to remember.

Even with the harsh weather, students showed up, representing Bath in their blue and yellow outfits to support friends, teammates, housemates, and fellow sports people. With over 3,200 spectators from Bath, 900 from Cardiff Met, plus athletes and staff, it was certainly fully packed. We find community in sport and was a pleasure to see the sea of blue and yellow return at each match. And I think we will all agree the performances by Bath Jets Cheerleaders showcased their fantastic 85-person squad and continued pumping our crowds up over and over.

Now, onto the sport itself. Some of our teams were required to take part in play-off games instead of attending varsity so some of our team sheets changed at the last minute. Regardless, Bath students did us proud! Winning most matches, please see the table below of results:

Our teams fought tooth and nail against their Cardiff Met counterparts and as you can see, won a lot of their matches. We would however like to say well done to our rivals, Cardiff Met, on providing fantastic competition for our teams this year in some rather nail-biting matches. I know our teams enjoyed this dual and are excited to travel away to face Cardiff Met for the sixth-year next season.

We'd also like to highlight the fantastic volunteers who helped on the day, from SU Sports Exec to V-Team stewards and litter pickers, the day wouldn’t have been possible without your help and support. We hope that you enjoyed the event as much as we did. Finally, a massive thank you to SU Staff involved in organising this event. This wouldn’t have run without all the hard work and dedication which has been put in over the last few months.
