Postgraduate Buddying
What is Postgraduate (PGT) Buddying?
While starting a postgraduate degree can be an exciting experience, it is also recognised that it may also trigger feelings of anxiety and nervousness about what to expect. We also recognise that it can feel daunting, especially for students who are less familiar with the university and city of Bath, particularly for international students, who have concerns about moving to a new country, or city, or culture, where they may not know other students.
At the University of Bath, we are able to offer students a ‘PGT Buddying Scheme’ for Postgraduate Taught courses. The ‘PGT Buddying Scheme’ will match you up with like-minded fellow students, in small groups to share your postgrad experiences, talk about how you are finding your course, as well as signing up to events and opportunities together.
There is a lot of support on offer to you at the University and within the Students’ Union, particularly in relation to wellbeing and your academics. However, we know that often the best person to empathise, understand and support you in a new environment can be another student going through the same experience. Buddies will be given each other’s emails to communicate, at which point you may exchange other methods of communication (eg phone number/social media) to communicate however you prefer.
