SU LGBT+ Group

A student-led group that supports, represents and brings together LGBT+ students of the University of Bath. They are a diversity and support groups that run regular meetings, socials, and events. And, unlike other SU groups, they are free to join!

A monthly support group for students run by the Student Support team who want a safe space to meet and feel more confident and comfortable with their LGBTQ+ identity, and for students who are questioning or exploring their identity.

LGBTQ History Month is an annual month-long observance of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer history, and the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movements.

Gender Expression Fund

Gender non-conforming, nonbinary and trans students can apply for up to £50 to spend on gender affirming items and services, such as binders, clothing, and haircuts (see list below for more examples). This is a community-led fund, with exclusively trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people deciding how money is allocated. This is a trust-based scheme which will not require information about your personal financial situation.

External Organisations.

Below you can find some external organisations that may be useful:

  • FFLAG (Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) - a UK voluntary organisation and a charity offering support and information.  Has a good selection of resources, including advice for those wanting to come out. Also has an extensive list of links to other gay-related websites
  • AKT - supports LGBT+ young people aged 16-25 in the UK who are facing or experiencing homelessness or living in a hostile environment.
  • GALHA (Gay and Lesbian Humanist Association) - provides a voice for the many non-religious members of the lesbian and gay community in the UK and elsewhere.  It promotes a rational humanist approach to homosexuality, and to lesbian, gay and bisexual rights as human rights.
  • Stonewall - Equity and Justice for Lesbians, Gay Men and Bisexuals.  Probably renowned for its campaigning and lobbying, Stonewall's site consists of gay news and campaigning information.
  • Gender Identity Research & Education Society - A site containing the booklets that are given to trans patients and their doctors on the NHS, as well as containing a copy of the WPATH Standards of Care.
  • TransWhat? A Guide Towards Allyship - A guide primarily aimed at those who have recently discovered that someone close to them is intending to transition in some way, though the information would be beneficial to people in general.
  • Asexual Visibility and Education Network - an online community and archive of resources on asexuality
  • Galop - the LGBT+ anti-abuse charity
  • Regard - National LGBT+ disabled support and campaigns network, aiming to increase awareness, inform, and combat social isolation for LGBT+ disabled people.
  • FRANK - UK based drug and addiction advice service.
  • The Beaumont Society - a national self-help body run by and for the transgender community. We welcome all transgender people and their partners, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, creed or colour and all varieties from the nervous newcomers to those who are experienced and confident in their preferred gender.

Sexual Health

  • Terrence Higgins Trust - Offers services, support and advice.  Gives practical advice concerning HIV/AIDS and sexual health, as well as general gay related information and support for young people.
  • NHS Sexual Health - All the information you need about STI's, and what to do if you may have one.
  • The Riverside Clinic (Sexual Health Clinic) - offers free, LGBT+ inclusive, non-judgmental and confidential sexual health testing, treatment and advice.  Their services include walk-in clinics and booked appointments. To book an appointment, call 01225 831593.
