We are currently in the period that every student dreads; The Assessment Period. Many of you are probably counting down the days until your last exam, course work submission or your dissertation deadline; either way, we are all in the same boat. Or if you're a doctoral student, its probably bussiness as usual :). To support you during this period, the SU is launching the Study Well campaign from the 13th of January to the 24th of January.  This will include a series of activities, check out the website to find out more!

It's important that you take care of yourselves during this period so here are three quick study tips from me!

1. TAKE A BREAK - Go for a walk around the lake, watch an episode of your favourite show, read your favourite book. Taking regular breaks will help you feel more focused! :-)

2. SLEEP WELL- All nighters may seem like a good idea, but its about the QUALITY of study time, not the QUANTITY)

3. EAT WELL- I know it's tempting to skip a lunch break but your body needs fuel to keep going! Also, for all the coffee addicts out there... your body CANNOT run on coffee.

A quick one on Study Spaces....

You'll be happy to find out you don't need to be fighting over seats in the library. Here's a link to all the other alternative quiet study spaces that are available on campus throughout the exam period;

In addition to this, you can access the learning commons and graduate commons, as per this link.

The Virgil Building should now have extended opening hours for the exam period and you should also have the option of booking rooms at this location too.

On another note, I'm excited to work with you guys to create some change this year!  Some exciting things coming up include a NEW lecture capture policy, we have survey which is currently live for you guys to give us your views on why having your lectures recorded is important to you

Things to look out for from me in the upcoming weeks

  • Exam errors and how to report
  • Plans towards a bigger and better study well campaign for the May assessment period
  • OFFICER ELECTIONS!! - Have you thought about running??
  • Planning ahead for Black History Month next year!!

Good luck guys, you got this!!!

If you feel like you need someone to talk to , Nightline is now open again for the semester ( find their number on the back of your library card), you can pop into Advice and Support during weekdays from 10:00-16:00 or alternatively you should be able to head over to Wellbeing in 4 West!
