Su President Hey guys, its Benji here signing off for one last update!
What a year it has been, with many highs and some lows it has been such a pleasure to be your 25/26 President.
I have loved my year representing you all within the Students Union, University, Local Community and Nationally and I am so grateful to everyone who put their trust in me to carry out this role. As President it has been an insane year so I will now give you some of the highlights and accomplishments:
- U6 - After alot of door knocking, map planning and gathering student insight. I am proud to announce that from next year we will have a new regular Bus Route that will go all the way along London Road.
- Thin Sandwich Placements - I saw first hand all the housing issues that Architecture and Management students faced with the difficulties of 6 month tenancies. I am really proud to say that from 27/28 these courses will revert back to regular placements!
- University Guarantor Scheme - Working with Izzy and Sanya on this has been one of the highlights of the year. Due to countless hours lobbying in and outside meetings, we will now have a University ran Guarantor Scheme that will save on average 525£ per Student. This will be offered to International , Widening Participation and Estranged Students.
- Kitchen Cleaning - Me and Izzy got cleaning back on the menu in University managed accomodations.
- Governance Review - I am proud to say that we have started a governance review within the SU with a new "Governance and Nominations Committee" that will steer the way to ensure greater compliance and Transparency.
- NUS Referendum - As a team we led a referendum. You voted we listened and we will now be dissafiliated from the NUS and ensured that funds are used for local projects and our own National Lobbying efforts.
- Student Group Cap Removal - Since I was Community Officer this was a key priority of mine and I am proud to say that there is no limit to the amount of Student Groups the Union can support.
- 0% Interest Free Bus Loan - with a trial running for 70 students I am amazed to say that the University is looking at expanding this to more students!
- Influence University Strategy - I am really proud to say that Student Experience is a key strategic priority for the University, ensuring that for years to come Student Issues stays at the top of the agenda.
There are countless more successes but I hope this paints a picture of the work I have been doing. It has been a pleasure to represent you all this year and I have no doubt that Angus and the new Team with absolutely smash next year.
