What We Do
Welcome to Burban Dance Society! Join our crew and explore the dance styles embedded in Hip-hop and Urban dance culture. We offer a wide range of styles including Breakdancing, Hip-Hip, Urban, Popping, Locking and House.
Think dancing is too hard? Don’t worry, everyone has to start somewhere! Our classes are completely beginner-friendly so its suitable for people who have zero dance experience. We teach from the basic steps to more advanced grooves and choreographies - making it perfect for dancers of any level! If you have any questions or want to learn some new moves, our friendly committee members will be happy to help you out anytime :)
What you can get involved in at Burban Dance Society:
- Classes (2 times a week) - learn basic/advanced moves and choreographies for a range of styles.
- Training sessions (3 times a week) - practice your moves together with other members and learn more from experienced dancers.
- Shows - get involved in performances at shows such as Dancesoc April Show, Show In A Week, Fight Night etc...
- Competitions - join our dance team to take part in national university competitions! We've been placed in the top 3 for 3 consecutive years at the UCL dance competitions, hoping to keep it up this year too!
- Socials - from clubbing to movie nights, we have socials for all our members!
- Filming - learn and film choreographies (which you can help choreograph!) for our society Youtube channel and Facebook page.

Reasons to Join Us
Burban are involved in several performances and showcases throughout the year such as ‘Show In A week’ and ‘bodysoc show’. We encourage beginners to get involved as not only are they great but will help improve confidence as a person.
For the past few years Burban’s breakers have made the long trip up to Newcastle and attended the annual ‘UK Uni Bboy Championships’ and competed in solo and crew battles against other universities. This event is for all levels and always a great weekend away.
For the Last 2 years, Burban’s urban dancers have competed in TranscenDance hosted by UCL. This competition has grown over the last couple of years and Burban was proud to pick up 2nd Place in the novice hiphop competitions for 2 years running. A Burban trio team also picked up second place in their Trio dance division last year.
In March of 2015 and February 2016, Burban were proud to successfully host the "South West Got Rhythm" Breaking event, sponsorsed by Red Bull. There were over 200 participants on the day.
In 2012-2013 the society was awarded the 'Most Improved Activity Group'. In addition, the society was awarded 'Best Arts Society' the following year, thanks to dedicated members.
Workshops with some of the biggest names in Breaking - previous year's workshops include Bboy Venum (Skill Methods), Bboy Vicious Victor (MF Kidz) and Bboy Blanka (MZK). As well as workshops for popping, locking and krumping.
