Celebrating our Student Leaders
Every month, we'll be celebrating the incredible achievements of our Student Leaders and Student Groups in recognition of their dedication, commitment, and impact on the student experience.
There are two awards you can nominate for each month:
Student Leader/s of the Month
This award recognises outstanding Student Leaders who go above and beyond in their roles. Eligible nominees include:
- UG & PG Academic Reps (Course, Department, & Faculty/School), Academic Exec Committee Members
- Sport Committee Members, Sports Captains
- Sports Exec, Activities Exec, Media Exec
- Society Committee Members and event leaders
- Peer Mentors, PAL leaders, Student Trainers
- Hall Reps
- Diversity and Support Committee Members
- Media Committee Members
- Volunteering Committee Members and Project Leaders
Who Can Nominate
Anyone can submit a nomination, including:
- Students nominating themselves or others
- SU Staff
- University Staff
- SU Officers
You can nominate yourself, another Student Leader, or a group of Student Leaders. For example, you might nominate a Society Chair, or an entire committee that has made a significant contribution.
Each month, multiple Student Leaders may be selected for recognition.

Student Group of the Month
This is an opportunity for us to recognise the amazing work of our SU Groups. To qualify the group must be an official SU-affiliated Student Group.
Who Can Nominate
Anyone can submit a nomination, including:
- Students nominating themselves or others
- SU Staff
- University Staff
- SU Officers
Groups are welcome to nominate themselves.

Why Nominate?
Individuals and groups who are chosen as winners will receive:
- A digital certificate
- Feature across socials
- Be listed on our Celebrating Student Leaders page
- For Student Leaders of The Month, you will receive a LinkedIn post with tags and potential skills endorsement or recommendation from staff or SU Officers
We know employers are looking for more than just academic achievement. This scheme helps students showcase their leadership, volunteering, teamwork, and professional skills and helps build their online profile.
Nomination Criteria
We're looking to recognise individuals and groups who have made positive contributions to enhancing the student experience.
Nominations could relate to:
- Delivering a successful event
- Raising money for charity
- Leading an impactful session that develops others - e.g. a PAL Leader Session, a coaching session or training.
- Creating positive academic change
- Demonstrating significant commitment to a role
- Supporting fellow students and building community
To be eligible:
- Individuals must hold one of the Student Leader positions listed above.
- Groups must be SU-affiliated Student Groups.
- Nominees must be current students at the time of nomination.
Nomination Deadlines
There will be seven opportunities to nominate individuals and groups during the year, with the nomination deadline for each as follows:
- 25 October 2026
- 25 November 2026
- 12 December 2026
- 25 February 2027
- 25 March 2027
- 25 April 2027
- 25 May 2027
