Regular Events

Informal Recital

We hold Informal Recitals throughout the year for anyone to perform in a relaxed atmosphere in smaller groups or solo. They are not auditioned and are open to everybody in the society to perform or watch. Information about these will be given during weekly rehearsals and society emails.

Christmas Concert

Every year we have our traditional Christmas Concert in a local venue, usually a church. We have an afternoon and an evening concert, each featuring half of our supported ensembles with a variety of music styles. Listen to our 2019 Christmas concert on YouTube.

Vocal Fest

Vocal Fest is our celebration of everything voice! Twice a year we hold day-long workshops for all our vocal ensembles, often led by brilliant vocal coaches (and experts in their field). Last year, our workshops were run by Edward Button, and Charles MacDougall.

Formal Recital

The Formal Recital is the main opportunity for our members to show off their individual talents. Although we hold informal recitals throughout the year, the Formal Recital is a formal event held in the Edge for small groups and soloists to perform in front of an audience. Auditions are held about three weeks in advance.

Easter Concert

Our second society-wide concert of the year takes place around Easter, also held in a local venue. All of our ensembles will be performing across two concerts throughout the afternoon and evening.

Jazz Night

Big Band have played at many end-of-year balls and have previously staged their own Jazz Night on campus and at Komedia. We are hoping to continue that this year.

Other Concerts and Performances

For the last three years, Orchestra has performed their own concerts twice a year in churches across Bath, sometimes in collaboration with our Choir. In April 2019 they performed a full orchestral repertoire for the first time, performing Dvorak's Slavonic Dances (No. 8), Liszt's Piano Concerto No.1 in Eb major, and Dvorak's Symphony No. 8.

Two years ago, our Concert Band attended the first South West Universities Concert Band Festival in Exeter, performing alongside Exeter and Bristol university concert bands. This year, we are hoping to collaborate with other universities by hosting the South West Universities Concert Band Festival.

Last year, our Brass Band entered UniBrass, held at the University of Warwick, a national contest for university brass bands. We are hoping to continue to enter this contest, and hope to come away with some prizes this year!

Our Big Band also get invited to perform at many events, one of the most prestigious being the RAF Centenary Ball.

Busking also takes place during the run-up to Christmas, with some of our ensembles performing at the Christmas markets in Bath city centre to raise money for ChaOS.
