Here at Gymnastics HQ we get a lot of questions from you guys so we thought we'd put answers to some of the more common ones here:

Q: I'm a total beginner, can I still join?

A: Yes of course! Loads of our members have done little or no gymnastics before they join. Our sessions are very relaxed and you will be grouped with other students of a similar level. Coaches and experienced gymnasts are always on hand during Monday sessions so you will have plenty of support to get you started.

Q: When and where do you train?

A: We have two sessions a week at Baskerville's Gymnastics Club in Bath. The main session is on Monday from 9pm - 10.00pm and the open session is on Thursday from 9:30pm-10:30pm. Some gymnasts also attend adult gym sessions at Bristol and will post on the Facebook group when they are going if you would like to join.

Q: How good do I have to be to come along to the advanced Thursday session?

A: As a general rule we say you should be able to somersault off a trampet and be able to train independently. Those who are new to gymnastics will be able to come along once they have learned some basic skills and can safely train on their own.

Q: Do I have to sign up for every session I want to attend?

A: Yes! Due to limited capacity of the gym you need to sign up to each training session every week. Sessions get booked quickly and if you do not sign up, you will be turned away.
Only members can access the sign up page, and sign ups open the Friday the week before at 9am and close at 8pm on the day of the session.

Q: I've done a lot of gym before, what can I expect during training?

A: Gymnasts with experience are given a lot more free time to work at their own pace during Baskerville's training sessions. We sometimes go to City of Bristol Gymnastics Club for extra training which is geared mainly towards more experienced gymnasts. Coaching is always available if you need it. A lot of the time our more advanced gymnasts train together and help each other out.

Q: What does membership get me?

A: Members can come to training at Baskerville's in Bath every week for FREE! Some gymnasts go to Bristol together for extra training which you have to pay for but it doesn't cost very much. In addition you'll get to come to our socials, compete in competitions, and meet loads of awesome people you otherwise wouldn’t see!

Q: What should I wear at training?

A: Guys normally wear jogging bottoms or shorts and a t-shirt, girls normally wear leggings/shorts and a tightish t-shirt that stays on when you're upside down.

NO jeans/combat trousers/zips/buttons/jewellery please!

Q: Do I need to bring any money to sessions?

A: Once you have bought your membership on thesubath all sessions at Baskervilles are FREE, however be sure to remember some change for the bus if you are coming from campus.

Q: Where is the gym?

A: Baskerville's is just off Englishcombe Lane to the South of Oldfield Park (BA2 2EJ). For the first few weeks we will meet Freshers on campus and take the bus there with you. For any new students living off campus we will meet everyone in Oldfied Park for the first few weeks and walk together.

Q: I'm not a student, can I still join the club?

A: Unfortunately we can't take non-student members as the club is funded entirely by the Students' Union. Baskerville's and City of Bristol Gymnastics Club both offer independent adult sessions that you can go to, feel free to email us if you want more information.
