Beginner Jam Sessions
New to jazz or improvisation? Our weekly Beginner Jam Sessions are a relaxed, low-pressure way to learn the fundamentals of improvising and playing in a small ensemble.
Each week, our Musical Director introduces a new jazz concept, demonstrates how it works, and then leads the group in applying it to a chart sent out before the session. Everyone solos together at first so no one is put on the spot, and the group then moves to smaller groups and individual solos as confidence grows.
Sessions are aimed at musicians with little or no experience of jazz or improvisation. Bring your own instrument. Drums, piano/keyboard, guitar and bass amps, microphones and music stands are all provided, so singers, drummers and keys players just need to turn up. Experienced players join the rhythm section alongside beginners to keep things steady.
