Adapting segmented postgraduate support to meet diverse student needs by harnessing AI and empowering students to excel in an ever-changing job market.

Lead Officer: Sanya Jethwani, Postgraduate Officer

What is the issue about?

With the world rapidly changing, we need to ensure that we are equipping our postgraduate students with the most up to date information about sectors they are likely to enter upon graduating. For example, while AI may be fine to use in a sector such as technology, in a more clinical field, they may have much stricter rules on its use. We want to build the employability of our postgraduate students beyond their course in relevant sector advice that will be a strong asset to their future career.

What are we asking the University to do?

We are asking that the university continues to develop the work on PG employability that they began with the top ten last year, but with a strong emphasis on a more departmental approach.

What will success look like?

  • Departmental career support programmes designed in collaboration with students, staff, and employers.

  • Increased PGT student satisfaction with employability support in departmental and national surveys.

  • Well-communicated promotion for tailored career workshops, employer events, and alumni-led sessions, that lead to strong participation.

  • Ensuring that employability advice reflects sector-specific requirements and future trends (e.g., use of AI, regulatory changes) through engagement with university business and sector partners.

  • A year-on-year process for gathering PGT student feedback on this programme to shape and update departmental employability provision.
