Older People's Activities

Would you like to help V Team and volunteer with Age UK B&NES? Check out some of the volunteering opportunities available below:
  • Research Objects 31st January, 2019 (Thursday) - Click here to sign up
It is a one-off events for the Age UK Culture Club held at St John's Foundation Meeting Room.  This is an opportunity to allow PGR students to engage older people with research.  You'll be given the challenge of devising and delivering a short presentation (5-10 minute) about your research, about why it matters and its (potential) impact to a group of older people without using powerpoint slides.  Instead, you'll need to choose an object either associated with, or that encapsulates, your research and present this as a 'hook' of your talk.
  • Day Centre Helper 11th, 14th and 15th February (Monday, Thursdsay, Friday) - Sign up open soon (watch this space)
These session were held during the National Student Volunteering Week at St Michael's Day Centre in Bath Town Center.  Students will hold handicrafts or music session for Age UK members and given a chance to integrate with the local community.
  • Chinese New Year Lunch 12th February, 2019 (Tuesday) - Sign up open soon (watch this space)
This is an annual project where students cook lunch for Age UK members at the day center in Midsomer Norton.  V Team have been working with Bath Hong Kong PASS society for years in this project.  Studentswill have the opportunity to share their own culture and celebrate Chinese New Year.  It is also a chance to chat with the locals and exchange your ideas with them.
  • Cultural Club Activities (last Thursdsay of every month)
Students run a session/activity for Age UK members.  V Team previously held activities with Latin Ballroom and Dance, Fine Art SocietyBath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution, American Museum etc.
  • On-going volunteering opportunities with AGE UK - Click here to sign up
There are many different roles in Age UK Banes, ranging from helping out with administrative work to volunteering in their day centers  either in Bath or Midsomer Norton

Alternatively, there are still a lot of opportunities on the volunteering module for you.
  • Digital Literacy Project - Sign up open soon (watch this space)
This is a new project aiming to help the Older People improve their digital literacy.  It will be a weekly drop in session at the Percy's Community Center where anyone from the community can come.  Students will help solve any problems they have with their gadget or teach them something new about it.

However, if the volunteering opportunity we offer does not cover something you would like to do, feel free to email vteam@bath.ac.uk or speak to the committee and start a new project.
