Ensure the provision of adequate changing & toilet facilities at all University sports grounds, providing a hygienic and safe environment
Lead Officer: Angus Gueterbock, Sport Officer
What is the issue about?
Toilet and Changing provisions have been overlooked at many of the university sports grounds.
Whilst there are toilets within the STV, these can be up to 10 minutes away from the pitch. This can cause significant disruption to player experience (missing up to 20-30 minutes of their offer, just to go to the loo). The only other option for a student is to do their business by the side of the field.
The changing facilities are also located within the STV. There is less impact here as these are typically only used before and after a session. However, at many university sports grounds there is little-to-no shelter to protect participants in the event of severe weather or injury.
Whilst this does affect students taking part in their competitive offers. This has a bigger effect on the recreational offers. For students who are less “sporty”, the prospect of having to go for a hike to access basic amenities will likely put many off turning up.
What are we asking the University to do?
We are asking the university to evaluate its toilet and changing provision at all university sports grounds. Where there is not an adequate provision, we are asking the university to invest in these facilities.
What will success look like?
Improved provision across university sports grounds.
