My Manifesto
Take a look at my orginal manifesto that was written when running for Postgraduate Officer.
Manifesto
My Pledges and Updates
- Keeping track of student concerns I will maintain a clear record of issues raised by postgraduates, track progress, and ensure students know when concerns have been addressed.
I have created a "Issue Tracker" to help maintain a clear record of what issues have been raised and completed.
- Open-door policy & feedback channels I will hold open sessions, run online forums, and create simple feedback tools so your ideas directly shape SU priorities.
I’ve maintained a strong open-door approach throughout the year, holding regular 1:1s with PGTs, PGRs, and international students across both UG and PG communities to ensure a wide range of voices are heard. Alongside open sessions and informal conversations, I’ve also set up an online feedback form so students can easily share input on SU priorities as well as feedback on my performance, helping keep my work transparent, accountable, and student-led.
- Commemorative days on mental health I will work with the SU and University to introduce events that recognise and raise awareness of mental health.
- Stronger faculty–student communication I will advocate for clearer updates on academic expectations, funding opportunities, and career development pathways.
- Tackling postgraduate isolation I will ensure more postgraduate-focused social, cultural, and networking opportunities to help students build meaningful connections.
- Support for underrepresented groups I will strengthen support networks for international students, student parents, and part-time students, ensuring everyone has a voice and community.
Our first event for the PG Network, the PG Quiz was sent out to distance learners and part time students to enjoy from home! All further events will also be taking into consideration formats accessible to these groups!
- Financial support & transparency I will campaign for better financial support, more scholarships for PGs and clearer communication on funding and rent payments, accomodation bursaries and gurantor schemes for international students so no student is left struggling.
More scholarships have been introduced this year for PGTs and PGRs, alongside a new University-run guarantor scheme supporting international, widening participation, estranged students, and student carers who face barriers securing private accommodation.
- Fairer international student recruitment I will work with international recruitment teams to ensure processes are smoother, clearer, and more transparent for prospective students.
- Postgraduate-focused mental health support I will push for mental health services tailored to postgraduate needs—addressing stress, research pressures, and imposter syndrome. I will advocate for quicker access to counselling, peer-support programs, and workshops designed to meet the unique challenges of postgraduate study.
- Modernising professional development I will advocate for departmental-level postgraduate professional development that includes training in modern skills, AI, and future career pathways.
- Improving PGR–supervisor relationships I will work towards strengthening the support and communication between postgraduate research students and their supervisors.
