My Pledges and Updates
- Slash Bureaucracy on risk assessments and paperwork associated with Student Groups Update: Excited that there is a new Event Form that has reduced Bureaucracy by 40% for groups wanting to host an event
- Remove Existing Caps on Student Groups to ensure that any student that wants to create a Society is supported Update: I am delighted that over the Summer the decision was made to remove existing caps on student groups to ensure that any student that wants to create a society is supported. So this has been successful!
- Increased SU Officer Transparency and Updates through bimonthly hustings Update: Held 2 Officer Hustings to date with more on the way
- Guarantee a Thriving Relationship with the New chair of University Council Update: I have built a thriving relationship with the Chair of Council to ensure that Student's are at the heart of all decisions and fortify the position of Student Governors on Council
- Push for the Removal of Management and Architecture Thin Sandwich Placements Update: By 2028 intake there will no longer be any more Thin Sandwich Placements
- Ensure that the SU takes a more Proactive Approach in Regard to Commemorative Days Update: From next year a form will be sent out to all Student Groups asking what Commemorative days they want the SU to advertise and how the SU can help them celebrate
- Fight for Increased Support for students in HMO’s Update: International, Estranged and WP Students will soon have access to a University run Guarantor Scheme (Saving 550£ on average per student). Additionally I am campaigning for the Local Council to not ban HMO conversions of 3 bedroom houses
- Policies that will allow the University to act as a Private Letting Agent for our Most Vulnerable students Update: Unfortunately this is not accomplishable as the University has no apetite to let properties to Students
- Campaign for the Expansion of the Claverton Bursary Update: Expansion of international scholarships
- Carry on pushing for 0% Interest Free Bus Pass Update: Success!!! The University trialed this program for students on bursaries. Over 70 students registered with the scheme
- Introduce a 1£ cup token system during Happy Hour and Club nights to ensure cups aren’t broken and binned Barrier: Due to logistical reasons, this point seems unobtainable as the SU as no intention to handle cash
- Support the Vice-Chancellor in Becoming a Top 100 University in QS World
- Continue to participate in National Campaigns to ensure that our SU is at the forefront of the Sector Update: Met with Wera Hobhouse our MP to discuss student loans repayment, Met with Helen Godwin the Mayor of the West of England to discuss Transportation
- Attend Local Council Meetings to ensure student issues are being heard Update: Attended a Local Council meeting to advocate for student housing. Additionally, I have a working relatiopnship with all the key stakeholders in the Local Council
- Ensure that a Wider Selection Affordable Meals are Available Across campus Update: Introduced 1£ porridge at the SU Bar and I am currently on the Commercial review board
- Fight for Food Across Campus to be Representative of our Diverse Student Population Update: There is currently a University Commercial Review. I was appointed in March on the oversight board.
- Increase the Amount Storage Space that our Student Groups have access to Update: Angus is leading on this Top 10 point
- Fight for a truly Multifaith Prayer Room Barrier: Due to logistical reasons, this point seems unobtainable
- Ensure that Students get their Exam Timetables as early as possible Barrier: Due to logistical reasons, this point seems unobtainable
