Manifesto Pledges 2026-27

Accessibility

  • Introduction of quiet/sensory hours in the STV pool/gym to support neurodivergent students (University Advocacy)
    • Have began coversations regarding the sensory experiences in the Sport Training Village (STV) with staff. 
    • Looking to create a sensory map of the whole facility. 
    • Working with gym manager on a new induction/welcome program for gym users including neurodiverse specific sessions for induction. 
  • Engage with the Diversity and Support groups here at Bath to understand the barriers they face in participating in sport and how we can enable them to participate more easily (SU Operations – Student Leadership & Support)

Bath Spirit

  • Streaming major events (e.g. Big BUCS Wednesday) which Bath are participating in back here at Bath (SU – Commercial)

Bureaucracy

  • Develop clear and accessible resources to clear up common misconceptions and answer frequently asked questions about SU processes (SU Operations – Student Life)
    • Sport staff have started to compile a committee handbook to give clearer uinstrcution on where to find resources with links to relevant webpages etc. 
    • There is an ongoing mini process review for SU Groups Affilaition and Disaffiliations. 
  • Create Sport Officer drop-in sessions for sport committee members to share their challenges, ideas and concerns in an informal environment (SU Operations – Student Leadership & Support)
  • Lobby for student consultation on any potential redevelopments of the Sulis site (University Advocacy)
  • Look to align booking slots at Sulis with the U4 bus timetable to allow more individuals to access the facilities (University Advocacy)

Community

  • Working with clubs on their visions to enhance the experience of their members (SU Operations – Student Life)
  • Increase the engagement of underrepresented groups within sport such as post graduate and international students (SU Operations – Student Life)
    • Planning simplified guides on what to expect at sport events specifically targeted at international and postgraduate students. 
  • Create a forum for club committees to share ideas and collaborate. Often the best people to learn from are each other (Student Operations – Student Life)
    • Working on how we can make the club committee workshops more collaborative.

Physical Health

  • Better promotion of the health benefits of participation in sport and general exercise (SU Operations – Student Life)
  • Further integration of the Bath Active Daily Mile into our sport offering (SU Operations – Student Life)
  • Expanding on the Bath Active offer by encouraging more sports to participate in the program (SU Operations – Student Life)
  • Improved social media coverage of the recreational offerings that many of our clubs already provide. We can’t grow engagement without awareness of what is available (SU – Chief Exec Remit)
    • Began working with the Sport Exec Media and Marketing Officers on plans for the year to feature more recreational sport on the SU Bath Sport instagram. 

Space

  • The redevelopment of Sulis is key to allowing us to expand our recreational offer whilst still maintaining the performance and competitive aspect of Sport that BUCS provides (University Advocacy)

Sport

  • Explore the reintroduction of female only swim fit lanes (University Advocacy)
  • Revamping the current exercise buddy scheme through consultation with students who have used the scheme to understand how it can better support them (SU Operations – Student Life)
  • Promote the revamped exercise buddy scheme with clearer information (SU Operations – Student Life)

Other Priorities

  • Improving the sport culture at Bath. Though improvements in inclusivity, behaviour and welcoming environments. 
    • Attended a joint workshop between SU Staff and Uni Sport Department on culture within sport at Bath 
    • Completed the BUCS anti-racist diagnosistic assessment and signed the BUCS Anti-Racist Charter, demonstarting a commitment to tackling racism within higher education sport. 
  • Wider range of sports shown in the Plug, to include Women's sport (SU Operations – Commercial)
