Accessibility

  • Continuing to call for common DAP adjustments to become standard practice, so more students are supported without having to ask (University Advocacy)
  • Working towards better lecture catch-up, with clear summaries, annotated materials, and recordings or other high-quality alternatives, so students can get back on track (University Advocacy)
  • Continuing to push for inclusive, student-informed study spaces, building on successes like the Woodland Lounge (University Advocacy)

Bureaucracy

  • Streamlining systems for Academic Reps by cutting unnecessary bureaucracy, making it easier to give feedback, share best practice, track ongoing issues, and see what progress has been made (SU Operations – Student Leadership & Support)

City

  • Reopening a study space in Oldfield Park, transforming Scala Hall into a convenient student hub when not in use by our student groups (University Advocacy)

Community

  • Strengthening a sense of belonging at department level by supporting student-led initiatives and advocating for dedicated spaces and activities that bring students together (SU – Leadership Group)
  • Continuing to advocate for recognition and reward of student leaders, and pushing for remuneration where appropriate (SU – Governance)

Influence

  • Wrapping up my Top 10 on incremental deductions for late coursework submissions, so small delays don’t result in disproportionate penalties (University Advocacy)
  • Pushing for assessment resits to improve marks up to the pass mark, recognising learning and academic progress rather than locking grades at the first attempt (University Advocacy)
  • Holding the University to account on high-quality, constructive coursework feedback that students can genuinely use to improve (University Advocacy)
  • Pressing for meaningful exam feedback, ensuring all students receive clear, actionable guidance, beyond just a mark or generic comments (University Advocacy)
  • Advocating for the expansion of early provisional exam marks, reducing unnecessary waiting and giving students clearer insight into where they stand (University Advocacy)
  • Securing the option to defer assessment, giving students the choice to delay exams when they’re not able to sit them (University Advocacy)
  • Reforming unit evaluations, including clearer reporting on actions taken and exploring ways for students to see feedback when choosing units (University Advocacy)

Other Priorities

  • Ensure that SU Events are accessible to all students, considering requirements such as wheelchair accessibility and sensory issues (Accessibility, SU – Chief Executive Remit)
