Blue Heart is a play of two unconnected parts, each of which challenges preconceived ideas of theatre. "Heart’s Desire", the first piece, follows a family awaiting the return of their daughter whilst the second, "Blue Kettle", revolves around a con artist seemingly trying to con old ladies out of their money by posing as their long lost son. This piece first showed in 1997 and like many of Churchill’s plays it explores perceived connections between family members; slowly descending into the bizarre.

This play delves into the very fundaments of idealistic concepts: will elocution lessons and beautiful dresses be sufficient to induce such a transformation? Is the notion of an “ideal woman” even possible?
