Chair of Elections Committee

Elections are vitally important to students, the Students’ Union and the University. They ensure that students, students’ views and interests are really represented and that activities are really student-led. They are held through all levels of student activity to choose:

  • Academic representatives in departments, faculties and on high-level University committees
  • SU Officer trustees to lead the direction of the Students’ Union and represent all students at the University of Bath to the University, locally and nationally
  • SU sub-group executive committee members to direct and manage areas such as societies and clubs
  • Activity group committees to run individual activities such as the rugby club or the Physics society

Officer elections this year achieved the highest turnout ever.

Applications sought for the post of Chair of Elections Committee

The Chair of Elections Committee is an appointed position. Applications are now being sought for an enthusiastic, inspiring and committed student, with strong leadership skills, to chair the Students’ Union’s Elections Committee. The post is for one year and training will be provided. Elections Committee is made up of representatives from all the SU’s sub-group executive committees and assists the SU’s Returning Officer in ensuring that all of the SU’s major elections run smoothly and are fair.

The principal elections are the cross campus elections but others include the Academic Rep elections, sub-group executive elections and all activity group committee elections. This is not only an opportunity to get involved in the Students’ Union but also a great personal development opportunity.

Closing date for applications is Monday 4th April. You should address your application to the Deputy Returning Officer, sureturningofficer@bath.ac.uk, giving details of your reasons for applying, your experience and what benefits you feel you can bring to this post. Informal queries may be directed to either the Deputy Returning Officer, Ian Robinson and/or the current Chair of

Elections Committee or the SU President, Jordan Kenny, supresident@bath.ac.uk

Interviews for this post will be on Monday 11th April and Tuesday 12th April 2016. The interview panel will be the SU’s Deputy Returning Officer (and Chief Executive), Ian Robinson and the SU President, Jordan Kenny.

Review Panel

Applications are being invited for students to sit on the Students’ Union’s Review Panel.

The Review Panel was developed to act as a critical friend to the Students’ Union and its Officers to give advice and help us better achieve our mission. The Panel is a very important and key group within the Students’ Union.

The Panel is made up of the chairs of the SU’s sub-group executive committees as well as 3 co-opted students. These 3 will be selected, from the applications, by the Panel.

See the full remit of the Panel

There will certainly be four meetings of the panel during the academic year 2016-2017 which tend to last 4 hours and there might be a fifth at the beginning of the year for the Panel to meet together for the first time.

This is a great opportunity to be involved in the Students’ Union and to help it improve. Ultimately, everything the Officers do is to support and represent you as students. The Review Panel gives you an opportunity to input into the work they do.

You should send your application by email to A.J.Fleet@bath.ac.uk

The closing date for these is 12 noon on Friday 8th April 2016. Applications will then be considered by the Panel at its meeting on Friday 15th April and you will be notified after that as to whether you are successful or not.

If you want further information, you can speak to any of the SU Officers or Alison Fleet, A.J.Fleet@bath.ac.uk (1East 3.10a)
